Materiality and Message: from private to public
This work is inspired by classic jewelry typology rings called ‘posy ring’, rings that were a symbol of society in the Middle Ages, developed by goldsmith artists in gold, engraved on the inside of the band (as a short rhyme). In the posy rings the messages were private. They expressed fidelity, love, loyalty and religious devotion. Only the donor and the recipient knew what it said inside, with the intention that they would only have meaning for the giver and the wearer, who carried the message on their skin, thus emphasizing the intimacy of the bond: it was said that “against the skin they increased their intensity.”

With this series of rugs I seek to challenge the concept of the traditional posy ring and redefine it from the position of a contemporary discourse. Point out how links, messages and artistic expressions go through changes in time. Externalize, expose, manifest, with the force of shouting a message, where the private stops being private and intimate and becomes a public and political position. Revealing or shouting a secret, a message that is no longer necessary to hide to feel it in body, we can manifest our love in multiple ways, with conviction and freedom, understanding love as emotional networks that intertwine and celebrate each other. The rugs delimit the space of the message, shouting while the possibility of connection arises in a certain context. Represent this triple effect between self, the other and the bond as an ideal or fantasy built in a we.
